Case Study: J's Associates

Industry: Government Contracting, Professional Services

J’s Associates is a woman-owned small business that provides comprehensive services to the federal sector in the areas of facilities operation and maintenance, landscaping and snow removal, and custodial and janitorial services.

The firm was established in 2003 by Juanita Keehn, President & CEO, and brings over twenty years of experience to its work with clients who have included the General Services Administration (GSA), Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, the Department of Defense (DOD) and the Department of State.

The goal of J’s Associates is to provide long-term value by operating buildings at peak performance and to serve as a value-added single source solution for the company’s government customers.

Keehn founded the firm following a career in the industrial, mechanical and chemical industry with a focus on mechanical systems. She also possessed a background in the federal sector, and recognized the opportunity to create a high-value service provider to meet the needs of a demanding federal clientele.

Today, the firm employs 60+ personnel and provides maintenance and support services to federal agency facilities from Florida to Massachusetts.

Today’s federal marketplace is highly challenging, and small firms must operate at peak efficiency in order to compete favorably. In addition, government contractors must work aggressively to identify, pursue and capture opportunities that best fit their capabilities, past performance and business strategy.

BradyRenner was recommended to J’s Associates when Keehn begin a search for a new accounting firm after a series of lackluster experiences working with previous CPA firms. During the evaluation process, J’s Associates interviewed multiple potential firms including a very large CPA firm.

“Our goal with this selection process was to have a firm who was much more involved in the process, has a better feel for what’s going on in our business, and would be engaged in working with us each month,” says Keehn.

“Matt Brady really established a sense of trust,” she adds. “In addition to providing local support in Dunkirk, we felt that BradyRenner offered the right mix of being a hands-on partner, a small but strong firm that could more than meet our needs, and proven expertise in our sector.”

In addition, Matt told J’s Associates what they needed to do, not just what would be involved in supporting what they were already doing. After selecting BradyRenner, J’s Associates has continued to experience outstanding support.

Keehn concludes, “We truly appreciate the way that BradyRenner has taken charge of our accounting issues, questions and concerns. After having three accounting firms over 10+ years, we finally feel that someone is listening, and we appreciate the time your team will take to explain the numbers to us as well.”
